Experienced McCormack to boost Randwick coaching team
Experienced coach Ben McCormack has been appointed as Randwick’s Club Coach, the club have revealed today.
Most recently a vital cog in Warringah’s run to the Shute Shield grand final as an assistant to Darren Coleman, McCormack also has a bevy of achievements to his name from his time in and around the club scene in Queensland.
A former Development Officer for the Queensland Reds, he went on to become head coach of Gregory Terrace in Brisbane’s GPS competition, before enjoying great success with the Brothers club as Director of Rugby, overseeing five Premierships in 2016 including Premier grade.
He also established Brothers’ Elite Development Program, which has since seen a significant upturn in recruitment, coaching education, junior pathways and on-field success.
Excited to be joining a club with such a rich and illustrious history, McCormack feels that Randwick also has the necessary structures in place to help him oversee a return to the pinnacle of the Sydney club competitions.
“We have a vibrant junior base and the right recruitment model, which consistently targets quality people at the Colts level, which is critical to long term and sustained success of the club,” he said. “Off the back of a successful Colts campaign this year, winning first and second Colts premierships and some great talent and depth already existing in the grade program, the future of Randwick looks very exciting.”
“Randwick is an iconic brand and has a rich history of success as a Club within the community. It’s a club held in such high esteem because it has always had a ‘club first’ mentality which is something I am very passionate about. Randwick has always had great players enjoying their rugby and a winning culture across all grades, and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”
His appointment comes after the club conducted a thorough review process of their operations, the outcome of which was the decision to split the roles of Club Coach and 1st Grade Coach given the time commitments necessary to fulfil both to their optimum.
McCormack will be responsible for the development and implementation of the overall club coaching strategies, including player and coach recruitment and retention, along with the entire club’s high performance program, which includes strength and conditioning, scheduling and selection policies across all grade and colts teams.
Currently serving as the forwards coach for the NSW Country Eagles in the NRC, he will officially commence duties with the Galloping Greens from October 1st.
Congratulations Randwick on an outstanding appointment. Ben was fantastic for the Rats this year and will be sorely missed. Quality bloke and without peer in terms of his Rugby knowledge and relationship management with staff and players.
