Fiji have triumphed in London to claim their fourth title of the current World Series, downing Australia 43-7 in the Cup Final to overtake the USA at the top of the ladder with one round remaining. But despite the margin of defeat in the title decider, it was a weekend of significant progress and many positives for an Aussie side starting to make good on the promise they have shown all season.

Langford 7s Day 2: Aussie girls back in the groove to claim vital silver

They only just fell short at the final hurdle, with a gallant 4pt loss to reigning champions New Zealand in the Cup Final their only loss of the tournament. But the Australian Women’s Sevens team have put together arguably their best weekend of footy of the season in Langford, Canada, picking up a silver medal and crucial World Series points to go towards their automatic qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Sydney 7s Day Three: New Zealand back on top as Aussie Men take 6th

New Zealand are back on top of the World Series rankings after taking out the Sydney 7s title with an emphatic 21-5 defeat of the USA in the Cup Final. It was the American’s fourth final defeat in four events this Series. Meanwhile, a severely injury-hampered Australian side fought gallantly to finish 6th, with barely enough bodies left standing to take the field.
