The Shute Shield is sounding better than ever thanks to SWR Sport

With the long-awaited and hugely anticipated Shute Shield finally getting underway last weekend, the best club competition in Australia is front and centre once again on the grassroots landscape.
The increasing interest in Sydney club rugby has also given rise to a welcome amount of media exposure, but if you can’t tune in to watch Channel Seven’s brilliant broadcast team bring a game into your living room every weekend, or log on to see newcomers Cluch TV live stream colts and lower grade games with first grade games on delay, then SWR Sport is your go-to home for the best live coverage every Saturday afternoon.
Undertaking their third season of Shute Shield coverage, SWR Sport will use their impressive commentary team to call at least one match per round, with a promise to feature every club at least once across the competition.
Led by SWR Sport Managing Director Julian Daw, who has called rugby at every level of the game from test matches to Super Rugby, World Sevens Series and the Shute Shield, and Robbie Feldmann, a mainstay of the rugby coverage since SWR Sport’s inception who has also called test matches, NRC, World Series Sevens and the Shute Shield, they are joined by the station’s returning chief rugby analyst – former USA international and Australian Schoolboys rep hooker Tom Coolican, a rising star of rugby punditry.
And they have beefed up their 2020 line-up with a marquee off-season signing, Fox Sports commentator Andrew Swain. One of the most respected commentators in Australian rugby, he has called Super Rugby, Super W and NRC on Fox Sports for over a decade, been a fixture of the Shute Shield’s TV coverage in recent years, and will feature as both a play-by-play and expert commentator on SWR’s coverage throughout the season.
Additional members of the SWR Sport stable including Tom English, Ben Eisenhuth and Jessica Dunne among others, will also feature throughout the year, and the coverage will also be complemented by SWR’s new weekly rugby show ‘SWR Sport Rugby’ which airs at 2pm every Saturday with a full preview of each weeks round, as well as a look at the ever-changing rugby landscape in this year of uncertainty.
This afternoon’s call will be coming live from Coogee Oval, and the mouthwatering clash between Randwick and Warringah, while next week sees a trip to the foot of the mountains for Penrith’s first home game back in the competition, as the Emus host Southern Districts. So tune in now for your club rugby fix!
