Andrew Deegan is one of the most talented players I’ve witnessed running around in the Intrust Super Shute Shield in recent years, where he lit up the club rugby fields of Sydney in the myrtle green colours of Randwick.
So it was with my best wishes but no little amount of frustration that I penned an article – click here – on his enforced departure overseas for a professional opportunity at the end of last season, after kicking his heels in the NSW Waratahs training squad for a couple of years.
One year on and he has returned from his stint with Connacht in Ireland’s Pro 14, and is currently a mainstay of the revamped Western Force side enjoying a renaissance in World Series Rugby. His performances have clearly put him on the right radar, as he was put in front of the media this week to talk about his pathway thus far, and ahead to his selection in the no.10 jersey for the Super Rugby select XV for tomorrow night’s trial match against the Wallabies at Leichhardt Oval.
